PAP: Summary of CzÄstochowa Metallurgical Plant privatization,
ISD CzÄstochowa Metallurgical Plant received “Sport 2007 Sponsor” award from the city’s authorities for promoting and supporting sport events in CzÄstochowa.
The title of “Sport Sponsor” is awarded to companies which actively participate in activities of sports clubs and associations. This year, also the Metallurgical Plant was among those who received recognition of the Mayor Tadeusz Wrona. This award is an expression of city’s authorities’ gratitude for the help the company has been providing sportsmen in Czestochowa.
Football players
Traditionally, it is “Raków” club, set up in 1922 mainly by Plant’s employees, which has the closest relations with the CzÄstochowa Plant. Forty years ago “Raków” players made it to the Poland’s Cup final and in the 1990s, for four seasons, the team competed in Poland’s premier league. At the time the Plant was the club’s main sponsor. When lean years begun and the Plant was going through hard times, the football club dropped lower and lower in the football hierarchy. Luckily, the run of bad luck was broken both in the case of the Plant and the club. Lately, the contact between the two has tightened and ISD Polska set aside PLN 700,000 for Raków’s players. It constitutes 70% of the budget of the club, which currently plays in the third league, admitted SĹawomir Malinowski, club’s chairman. Everybody hopes that next year “Raków” will make it to the second league.
Also a women’s football club successfully operates thanks to Plant’s funds. The female players of ISD Gol CzÄstochowa became vice-champions of Poland and are current indoor Polish champions. Four of them play on the national team.
Girls by the net
Surely, fewer people know that ISD CzÄstochowa Metallurgical Plant is sponsoring female volleyball players from “CzÄstochowianka” Sports Club, which is currently playing in the second league. Cooperation of “CzÄstochowianka” and CzÄstochowa Metallurgical Plant commenced in 1995 on the initiative of Jeremi Chybalski, a worker at the plant and the then chairman of the club. It was suspended when the plant went through a hard period and recommenced in 2005. ISD CzÄstochowa Metallurgical Plant funds current club’s activity.
The Plant is actively participating in the promotion of school sports. A one-off cash injection from ISD CzÄstochowa Metallurgical Plant was given this year to young sportsmen from the “11” Students’ Sports Club and young football players from KS Czestochowa when they went to a tournament in the Netherlands. More regular donations are given to Gol-Start club to organize annual Olympics for handicapped children and to sports association TKKF “Hutnik”.
A separate group of sportsmen sponsored by the Plant is a group of company’s full-time employees. The best Polish sports pilot Janusz Darocha, who is part of the Plant’s Rescue Team, received a subsidy for his participation in last year’s world aviation championship in France where he won three medals. CzÄstochowa Metallurgical Plant also sponsors marathon runner Dariusz Kondracki who is employed in the security department.
Funding on the part of the Plant also allows to organize regular shooting and fishing tournaments.
Money received from ISD CzÄstochowa Metallurgical Plant covered the cost of renovation of UĹKS “Speedway” mini cinder track at Brzegowa Street, which will host the world championship for 12-16 year-old competitors.
